We recently purchased this set for our 10 year old son. Although he has lots of Lego including several sets. So this set is Great for
someone who's starting up or otherwise! He and his friends love the Lego city stuff over the other themed sets. I like how this set has a robber, policeman including other mini figures for creating endless emergency scenarios. A real bargain for the price!!

Orange is a fairly rare color in the Lego world. This truck is orange, and the care is maroon red, not the bright basic red. The truck is very simple. Probably just over half of the pieces are spent on the truck and under half for the car. There is also a stop light that is fun. The tip light would be very easy to recreate on a large scale. All of the pieces for that are common except for the toe like looking top. I don't know what they call that piece.
The truck has a very different front from all the other city trucks I've bought. It's fun except I don't like that the license plate is off to the drivers side. it should be in the middle, but there are two pieces that it would have to overlap.
The hoist or winch is a lot of fun. It can pull the car up onto the flatbed. The flat bed also tips down to allow the care to be hoisted up.
They put running rails on both sides of the truck which was a realistic look. I think the only things on the truck I would personally change is to add some levers or controls, and to fill in the open space that I so often complain about.
The car is one of the better simple cars that I've seen. It does have very aggressive tires for a car... All Lego cars that I have seen recently have these tires which isn't realistic but that's ok.
Perhaps the best part about this set, is the woman. She has brown hair that flows over her shoulders. Pretty rare indeed. I love that Lego is now designing people too, they've come a very long way since my childhood!

Lego designers are smart people is all I gotta say the flatbed truck is cool as can be. First off the put stops for the wheels on the flatbed so the car will stay on the back. Second that car is really cool looking when complete. The truck is solid sept for the rear winch it is a pain to spool back on there always getting tangled up.
Over all there is nothing they could have done to prevent this I feel. You get two mini figs with a coffee cup and the female has a briefcase. That slides behind the seat in the red car perfectly.
If you are reading this review just buy it you won't be sorry.

Most look at Lego value regarding the average amount per piece being below or above 10 cents. With a retail of $79 and a piece count of 449 this baby comes in at a robust 17.5 cents per piece. This is daunting at first glance however I have seen consistently that Lego will price according to the size of large pieces that are included in each set. Note that the Coast Guard Ship itself is one big piece (as are all Lego ships) molded together that then has the bridge and other pieces attached to it. Due to the hulking nature of that piece as well as the molded raft, the value is solid, although not spectacular.
Every Lego build is unique and fun in its own way and this one is no different. The first bag is the pontoon helicopter which is straight forward and has solid playability with the 2 rotor blades and the hatch that opens and hinges easily to take the minifig in and out. There is also a small rotor on the rear. Next comes the Submersible which is small but unique and fun, followed by the lighthouse which is actually quite pedestrian. The ship itself is vast and full of playability. The helicopter has a place to sit on the front and the sub connects on the back and can be lowered and released down. The bridge has a roof that hinges so you can easily take a driver out and put a different one in. This still leaves plenty of room on the rear of the ship for minifigs to play or pose.
There are 6 minifigs and a dog as well as 3 sharks and a small crab so the accessories are nice. I would value those separately at $25 ($3.00 per mini fig and $2 for the dog/crab and at least $5 for 3 sharks) which means the remaining large peices would be about $45-$50. My son drives the boat around and puts people on and takes them off and flies the helicopter and floats the sub around. The dog adds a new a different twist which he can play with as well.
I am an expert builder so I found the build to be quite easy but I think most that have built Lego even here and there would not find this build to be challenging. It's a solidly built piece but like all Lego can certainly fall apart. It has lots of potential with the other new Coast Guard sets or other CITY sets. I combined mine with 60013 the Coast Guard Helicopter and although the total was a whopping $120 for both, it's a lot of play value. TIP: Keep the instructions and all the parts and then when you are done playing with it, sell it on eBay and buy something else. The trick is to make sure you aren't missing any parts!
Summary: Solid value if not excellent, but strong playability that is through the roof with possibilities.

This ship is much bigger than I expected. My 7 YO son had the whole set built in a short period of time, I think less than 2 hours. It has lots of fun stuff to do, a submarine, a helicopter, the ship, a lighthouse, and a separate raft. He brings everything into the bathtub of course, which this set is designed for.
On this hull, unlike the smaller fire boat, there seems to be a little spot to connect a water proof enclosed motor.
I wish Lego will continue to build these larger ships. A ferry that the Lego cars can drive onto would be fun. Like the ferries in Staten Island or Seattle.

Bought this for my grandson. He plays with this set quite a bit. My husband and I join in and we have hours of fun. He mixes this with other sets but when he's done they each go to their special display spot. Legos is for all ages.
As far as the seller goes the package arrived promptly and in excellent condition.

At this price, you can buy multiples and give one to each kid in your family or else save them for birthday gifts for friends.
What makes this set so special is its crossing gate... a BEAR crossing. The police car comes with 2 minifigs (the policeman and the criminal). You can cuff the bad guy and put him in the backseat wearing handcuffs. Hilarious. There is a portable flashlight attached. Remember, out in the back country, candle power = authority. This policeman is prepared.
A good assembly technique for young builders -- this set teaches the hinging for the crossing gate.
The gate is the right size for this vehicle, sure, but also the next size vehicle/wheel configuration up (for example LEGO 4437 LEGO City Police Pursuit 4437)... just in case you were wondering.
This is not easy to wreck. Even little builders can do it.

This set is a pretty good value at $11. You get a car, 2 figures, 2 handcuffs, and a road stansion. There are some neat new parts as well. Its an easy build under 10 minutes. It is a good set to get a child into playing with legos, or for the accessories. A nice kind of stocking stuffer or other gift. The other review expects too much from Lego. Generally the sets with special characters like a hulk, bear, etc, cost more money and are included in larger sets so you spend more. Its a marketing strategy. Overall, this set is a great value. Treat your child to fun and learning.
